WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF THE EXOTIC SHORTHAIRED CAT?

The Exotic Shorthair is born from a hybridization created by man to get a cat similar to the Persian by character and appearance, but with a shorthair coat (which is easier to manage).

The breed selection occurred in America, starting from the 60s of the last century, pairing a shorthaired American with a Persian; second-generation kittens were then made to cross again with the main breed to stabilize the desired characteristics.

This new feline lineage got the name Exotic Shorthair. After thirty years of selective programs, these cats finally began presenting all the peculiarities of the Persian, endowed with a shorthaired coat.

Given the great success in the home county, the Exotic was presented even at European exhibitions at the beginning of the 1980s, and the breed obtained official recognition from FIFE in 1984.

Currently, the Exotic Shorthair breed standards are fixed, but the crosses with the Persian are still allowed to develop the hair’s morphology and texture.

The Exotic Shorthair features a wide range of coat colors and designs. If it’s well cared for and the feeding is correct, the hair is soft and fluffy.
